Arabic Word of the Week | صَبْر (Sabr)
We often translate sabr as “patience,” but the word runs deeper.
It means to hold firm, to remain steadfast, to not let go — whether in hardship, obedience, or avoiding sin.
In daily speech, you’ll hear:
اصبر (iṣbir) → Be patient!
الله مع الصابرين (Allāhu maʿas-sabirin) → Allah is with the steadfast.
It’s not passive waiting.
It’s an active strength of the heart.
Next time you feel tested: traffic, stress, or delay, whisper sabr. Let it ground you before you react.
What’s one situation lately where ṣabr carried you through?
